It was a celebration of personalities in Ika Nation as IKA WEEKLY NEWPAPER marked her 10TH year anniversary and award ceremony today 27/05/2017. His Excellency Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor Delta State ,Hon. Anthony Emeka Elekeokwuri, Chairman of Public Accounts Committee of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon Victor Nwokolo , Hon. Okoh Festus, Kalikwu , Okwuokenye , Uzum, Okobah , Mbulu, Sebastine , Odili and others were honoured with" 2016 IKA WEEKLY NEWSPAPER DISTINGUISHED PERSONALITIES AWARD" for their oustanding contributions in Ika Nation. The event which took place at the State School of Nursing Agbor attracted dignitaries from all sphere of live, including cooperate bodies.
Speaking on the occasion, the Publisher/ CEO of IKA WEEKLY NEWSPAPER , Mr Steve Ashien said that, the Ika Weekly Personalities Award is meant to honour individuals who have contributed immensely towards the upliftment and development of Ika Nation during the year under review. He noted that these great achievers through impartial choice by Ika people via email and text messages were nominated for their positive impact on Ika Communities and beyond. He described the Awards as a celebration of people, places and value. He noted that His Excellency , Sen. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Authur Okowa , Governor Delta State, Hon. Elekeokwuri, Rt Hon. Victor Nwokolo, Hon. Okoh Festus and others were honoured with this personalities award as a result of their track record in bringing growth and development to Ika Nation, and for their numerous contribution to humanity which he described as commendable. He went further to extolled vibrancy of Hon Elekeokwuri at the House, where he have moved and supported many motions, sponsored many bills( a bill for Administration of Criminal Justice and other related matters therewith, Delta State Environmental Management bill, Delta State Environmental Management Agency Bill, Delta State Equipment Leasing Bill, Delta State Infastructure Bill etc.) , roll out various empowerment programmes (Women Empowerment Scheme, Youth Entrepreneurial Empowerment scheme, Youth Agricultural Scheme, Students Assistance Scheme, Overseas Training Scheme etc )and his effective chairing of the House Committee on Public Accounts which he said has brought probity and accountability in MDA'S . He stressed that this Award was in recognition of the numerous achievement His Excellency ,the Lawmakers and others.
In response, the vibrant Lawmaker who represented the Governor expressed gratitude to God Almighty for his grace, and this great honour bestowed to His Excellency, himself and other awardees, and thanked the good people of Ika Nation for nominating and finding them worthy of this prestigious Personalities Award. He noted that the Award is a call for futher contribution towards the growth and development of "Ika Land " and by extension the entire State and country . He on behalf the Governor dedicated the Award to God Almighty who he described as their strength and secret, and the wonderful people of Ika Nation for their continued support and prayers. He congratulated Ika weekly Newspaper on her 10th anniversary, and appreciated her dogged madia work, which he said has help to bridge the information gap in Ika Land, and brought the government programmes and policies to the grassroots.
