No Amount Of Hatred Will Erase Buhari’s Achievements – Lai Mohammed

The minister made the observation at the opening of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC)' Annual Lecture and 25th Anniversary of creation of the Commission.

Mohammed said that contrary to the impression being created by purveyors of hate speech and fake news, the Buhari Administration had, in a short time, recorded solid achievements under a most difficult situation.

He said despite operating with just 45 per cent of the funds available to the immediate past administration due largely to the fall in prices of oil, the Buhari government had achieved tremendously.

The minister said that it was as a result of the efficient leadership of Buhari that Nigeria had not witnessed economic and social crises like other oil dependent nations.

"A country that has consistently produced more oil than Nigeria, despite having about one sixth of the Nigerian population, is today embroiled in the worst economic crisis in its history.

"There is shortage of food, medicine and everything, and there is hyper-inflation.

"With Nigeria being affected by the same downturn in oil prices, coupled with years of monumental mismanagement of the country's economy and the mindless and maddening looting of its treasury by rapacious public officials, why is Nigeria not in similar crisis as the country in question?

"My answer is simple: Because Nigeria has a President like Muhammadu Buhari!;'' he said.

Specifically, the minister said that the Buhari government had brought transparency to governance, laying a solid foundation for the country's economic recovery and growth through the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and other economic policies.

"Does anyone remember the scandalous fuel subsidies that failed to deliver fuel to filling stations? What about the fertiliser subsidies that never guaranteed the availability of fertiliser to farmers? Today, fuel queues are gone with the phantom fuel subsidies.

"Also, thanks to the resuscitation of 11 of the country's moribund fertiliser blending plants, fertiliser is now available to farmers nationwide.

"In fact, 6 million bags of fertilisers have been delivered at 30 per cent below the market price, 50,000 jobs created and N50 billion saved with the stopping of fertiliser subsidy.

Mohammed said that despite paucity of funds, the Federal Government's Social Investment Programmes were being implemented, creating jobs for youths and providing nutritious food for school children.

He said the Micro-credit scheme of the programmes was providing over a million Nigerians with small loans at very low rates through the Bank of Industry.

The minister said that despite the cowardly bombing of soft targets, Boko Haram insurgency was not in resurgence.

He said that the Nigerian troops were up to the task of ensuring that there was no resurgence of Boko Haram.

The minister said that the government is also delivering on critical infrastructure like roads and railways.

"Contractors are back to work on roads across the six geo-political zones, helping to recover lost jobs and put some money back in circulation, as part of government's strategy to come out of this recession,'' he said.

He solicited the support of all Nigerians to enable the country to assume its rightful place in the comity of nations and make life more bearable for every citizen.

ASUU React To The Reduction Of JAMB Cut Off Mark.

Mixed reactions have followed the reduction of the cut-off mark for 2017/2018 admission into tertiary institutions.

Although, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said the decision was made by stakeholders in the education system; in reaction, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Thursday, scolded the Federal Government for making such a "sad policy".

From Chairman, ASUU, University of Ibadan, Deji Omole:

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led FG is trying to destroy education in Nigeria. The Ishaq Oloyede-led Jamb has presided over illegality, to favour the interests of the friends of government who own private universities."It is sad that the present administration's dream was to destroy education in Nigeria."

"We are watching because long before now we have said that JAMB has outlived its usefulness.""This is not setting a standard for education in Nigeria.

It is purely lowering standards and digging a grave for the future."

Boy Rescued After Being Tied To A Tree By Granddad For 5 Years

Photos have shown the moment a little boy's shocking nightmare comes to an end as he was rescued after being tied up alongside cattle for five years.

According to The Sun UK, Umesh, eight, is visually impaired and mentally disabled, but as if this was not bad enough he was also bound by his grandma because he was naughty.

Both his dad Bhagawati Lal and mum Manu Devi, died of the HIV five years ago and Umesh went to live with his grandparents in Udaipur, in Rajasthan.

But gran Peepi Bai, 75, allegedly decided to keep him tied with a rope in the cow stable because the little lad is violent and used to run away.

She said: "Umesh was a normal child till he was three.

"But after his parents died he started behaving differently. We don't earn enough money to get him treatment."

Mrs Bai added: "He's sometimes violent and leaves home without anyone knowing.

"We are old and cannot run around looking for him. And so we have to keep him tied up."

Elsewhere in the same city, Jiva Ram, 11, from Baydi village in Udaipur, also suffered from polio and mental breakdowns.

He was tied to a tree outside his house by his dad Hurma Ram, 35, a farmer, before he went out to work in his farm.

He said: "He had harmed himself in the past. To avoid any problems we had to keep him tied."

Both the boys are now free and been taken to a shelter home.

Bhojraj Singh, Aasra Vikas Sansthan child welfare charity founder, said he was shocked to find them tied to a tree like animals.

He said: "It was heartbreaking. We were shocked to see the condition in which both children were found.

"Javi was found unclad while one of his legs was tied to a tree, whereas Umesh was tied to a bamboo pole, among the cattle.

"Both the boys have been shifted to a shelter home where they will be taken good care of.

"We shall start their treatment and help them grow into good human beings."

Let’s Sit Down And Discuss Nigeria’s Future – Sultan Of Sokoto Talks Restructuring

Sultan of Sokoto Sa'ad Abubakar III said yesterday that there is the need to sit down and discuss how to make Nigeria better while speaking on restructuring at the colloquium organised Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

The Sultan said while groups from all over the country were agitating for one thing or the other, nobody had the right to ask others to leave any part of the country despite the glaring realities.

He said: "When people talk about restructuring, if they mean we should disintegrate the country, I will not support it. But if it means making things and lives better and much conducive and convenient for Nigerians, then lets sit down and discuss about it.

"I know that many of these groups from the North, West, South-South and South East agitating for this or that have their positions. But despite the realities at present, no group has the right to tell anybody you must leave this place or that place if we still live in this country called Nigeria.

"And I support the President's position 100 per cent, I believe what he said is right.

"And I say, instead of talking about devolution of power, let's talk about devolution of economy.

"It is good to sit down and dialogue, but there must be respect. I must respect you and you must respect me. And the greatest thing we can do for this country is to always reflect on our history. We didn't fall from the sky, but came from somewhere.

"We became Nigeria in 1914 through amalgamation. People are shouting that our coming together as a country in 1914 was a mistake, but God doesn't make mistakes. If God doesn't want such a thing as Nigeria to happen, nobody could ever have made it happen.

"So we claim to be very religious, but we challenge God, you don't come out in the open and say you are challenging God, but by actions and utterances, many people are virtually challenging God. There is no wrong in you saying I want to be better than I am.

"But when you sit down and discuss issues, you find out that you are a much better person. It is important for us to use this forum to bring out issues that are really gemming, very important at this time in the history of our country.

"I expected the organised labour to have been at the forefront of some of the issues affecting this country long before now. Not through strike, even though strike would be the last option, but there are things we need to take much more seriously and make our lives much better.

"And I also know that at the 2014 National Conference, some things were discussed though some people now said that conference was politically motivated and whatever. But whatever happens or anyone may say, Nigerians came together and discussed."

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress Comrade Ayuba Wabba said since the debate on restructuring started, many people had referred to it in different ways saying "For some, it means resource control component of fiscal federalism. Yet other groups see restructuring as increased access to political and economic resources and institutions of governance.

"The discourse among the political elite in our country in the last few months has been so heated that suddenly many involved in this debate have thrown caution, decency and decorum to the winds, and threats and counter threats, all having grave consequences for our cooporate existence as a nation, have become the order of the day.
"Since the outset of this latest stage of our political discourse, both the proponents and the opponents appear to be gravitating towards ''restructuring''. For some it means resource control component of fiscal federalism. Yet other groups see restructuring as increased access to political and economic resources and institutions of governance.

"Our inability to ensure that the rich resources this nation has been blessed with is administered in a way to benefit the vast majority of Nigerians has been at the centre of our crisis. In this respect, any effort to seek to be sustainable in addressing our recurring p

Charly Boy To Hit The Streets To Protest For Diezani Alison-Madueke’s Extradition

Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, will on Monday lead a protest to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja to demand the extradition of Diezani Alison-Madueke, former petroleum minister, from the UK to Nigeria.

The entertainer disclosed this in a statement signed by him and Deji Adeyanju on Thursday.

A few days ago, he led a series of protests to demand that President Muhammadu Buhari either resume office or resign.

In one of the protests, his group – Our Mumu Don Do – was attacked by hoodlums at Wuse market in the federal capital territory.

Alison-Madueke has been linked to several corruption cases in Nigeria. Some pieces of property she allegedly owned have also been seized by the government.

But the former minister insists that she has no case to answer and that the pieces of property linked to her were not hers.

"Following recent mind-boggling allegations of corruption and wanton looting of public funds and the collective patrimony of Nigerian citizens by the former minister for petroleum, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, we call on the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to apply for her extradition from the United Kingdom to face prosecution in Nigeria," Charly Boy said in the statement.

"Furthermore, a federal high court has ordered Mrs Alison-Madueke to permanently forfeit several luxurious properties in several high brow areas across the country to the federal government.

"It is therefore unimaginable that the federal government is not pushing for Mrs Alison-Madueke's extradition to face punishment for her alleged crimes.

"In this light, we will be holding a two-day sit out in front of the EFCC headquarters to demand that the federal government applies for her extradition and prosecution in Nigeria."

Defeat Me With Superiority Of Your Argument Not With AK47 – Nnamdi Kanu To PMB

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to come up with a better argument in the "debate for freedom".

Kanu said this on Wednesday in Abia state while reacting to Buhari's marching order to security agencies to tackle the excesses of secessionist groups, including IPOB.

The president had also discussed the issue of IPOB – among other "security threats" – with service chiefs during a meeting on Tuesday.

But Kanu faulted claims that IPOB is a violent group.

While stating that the "recourse to brute force to solve national problems would never work," the IPOB leader said the people must not be "railroaded into succumbing to intimidation".

"In this debate for freedom, everybody has to be heard. Buhari should defeat me with the superiority of his argument not AK 47," he said.

"Some people quickly recourse to violence, hate and intimidation because they have lost the force of argument.

"It is the continuation of Buhari's dictatorial and unwholesomely undemocratic approach to governance. I find it unacceptable and insulting that somebody elected by the people can turn around and dictate to them how he wants them to behave."

Kanu added that the group would never resort to violence in its quest for a sovereign state of Biafra.

"There is no need for people to be afraid of the internal operations of the IPOB. We will never ever resort to armed violence or armed conflict of any sort," he said.

"I will not do anything that will bring dishonour or shame to our people and if I do it, IPOB will never be violent, we will never be armed."
